About Me

i-keano-poster.jpg Ab Yours Cover TI Book COver Dear John Cover

I’m Michael Nugent, a writer from Dublin, and this blog is about following Bohemian football club, particularly during the 1977/78 season, which was also my last year in secondary school. I grew up following Bohs and Leeds United, and I am still coping with those addictions.

I also write a blog called That’s Ireland, which is about living for over forty years in the maddest country on earth. One of my books, which I wrote with Damian Corless, was also called That’s Ireland. More recently, I wrote the comedy play I, Keano with Arthur Mathews and Paul Woodfull.

Here’s a list of my main writing projects so far.

  • That’s Ireland (my other blog), 2007
  • I, Keano, comedy musical play with Arthur Mathews and Paul Woodfull, 2005
  • Absurdly Yours – The Michael Nugent Letters, 2004
  • That’s Ireland – A Miscellany, with Damian Corless, 2003
  • Ireland on the Internet – The Definitive Guide, 1995
  • Dear Me – The Diary of John Mackay, 1994
  • Dear John – The John Mackay Letters, with Sam Smyth, 1993
  • Majority Ethos, prank newsletter with Arthur Mathews, 1991
  • Occasional articles and cartoons for various publications

Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading the blog. Please let me know what you think.

Michael

Sounds like a great idea and best of luck with it. I for one will take an interest in it.

    Brilliant stuff!

Just reading Eamonn Sweeney’s book and wondering why no one ever did one on Bohs.

This is fantastic, I love hearing anecdotes or reading reports from Bohs games before my time so this is just great.

    Ah mick,

The memories of that season and the 70’s. Mick Smyth conceding just 10 (I think) leagues goals all year, the paltry crowds, the shed,

I hope you include (without naming names of course ) an account of “the councillors” and such characters as “the accusing nose” who frequented the Dalyer terraces at the time.

There was also the guy at every match who abused the refree in an indistinct drawl in which the only recognisable words were “jays sake” and “ref” someting like MRRAHHWRRWEhRRFLP…. JAYSAKE REF.

I remember making the “ah thats Bohs” banner – we were among the original flag and banner makers. I also remember it being stolen in Dundalk and having to chase a Dundalk idiot around Oriel to recover it.

    Mick,

I can smell the Bovril from the shed. I grew up in Cabra and just started going to Bohs games in the late seventies. I am in exile now in the States and enjoy keeping up with how Bohs are doing.

    Thanks

Hi mick heard you on the radio the other day I like the dig out day idea you were promoting but back to the bohs thanks for bringing me to the matches I still remember the atmosphere at the newcastle game pity the god of goals banner did not fly that night. Confession time I have a son and he is a shels fan but he is so young I have to bring him to tolka park thankfully there still beats a red and black heart inside me. Anyway soon be christmass so wish you all the best and keep the dream alive

Johnny Carey must be the only ghost who is a scout. He died in 1995!
